Since its incorporation in 1960, the unprecedented growth of San Dimas has transformed the City from an essentially rural area to a well-balanced community offering industrial, commercial, and residential living. In addition to the 1,700 acre Frank G. Bonelli Recreational Area which lies within the City boundaries, there are many parks such as San Dimas Canyon Park, a city-owned golf course (San Dimas Canyon Golf Club), and over 27 miles of equestrian trails for riding. The city services include an extensive recreational program for youth and for senior citizens, and the City boasts a new modern City Hall, with excellent provisions made for County Sheriff and Fire Departments, along with a fine Los Angeles County Library and Engineering Regional Office.

National Core Pulls Affordable Housing Project From 740 E. Foothill Blvd.
San Dimas, CA - The City of San Dimas is pleased to announce that the community's voice, in concert with significant efforts from our City of San Dimas and our partners, the City of La Verne and County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, was considered in National Core's decision to not proceed with their original project at 740 E. Foothill Blvd.
In April 2023, our cities became aware of a 54-unit, 4-5 story affordable housing development being considered on the unincorporated site located at 740 E. Foothill Blvd. The City of San Dimas immediately engaged with our partners at the City of La Verne and Supervisor Kathryn Barger's office to delay consideration to allow for public input and consideration. Our appreciation goes to Supervisor Barger for acting quickly to ensure our cities had the opportunity to engage before decisions were made.
In July 2023, the City of San Dimas and the City of La Verne held their first joint City Council meeting since the City of San Dimas's incorporation in 1960. At this meeting, the cities were joined by Supervisor Kathryn Barger and County officials to hear from our communities regarding this project. The result was a collaborative effort with National Core to find a more suitable location for the project and to ensure that the voices of the community and cities were considered. National Core's decision is a welcome indicator that they are partners in listening to our communities and ensuring our voices are considered.
Emmett Badar, Mayor of San Dimas, expressed gratitude for the community coming together and stated, "National Core made the right move by listening to the community and withdrawing their application for 740 E. Foothill. Now, we will continue to work on finding a more appropriate site that ensures the community is heard and that any project is the right fit for the location."
Mayor Pro Tem Ryan A. Vienna, whose district would be directly impact by the 740 E. Foothill Blvd project related, “I am grateful to National CORE for hearing the community's voice regarding the site they were considering off Foothill Boulevard. This site presented challenges in its suitability for such a project and in best serving its intended population as well as the community at large. I am hopeful that through collaboration, a more suitable site can be identified to best serve the intended population and the community at large, providing better access to resources, transportation, and jobs. Thank you to Supervisor Barger, her staff, county stakeholders, our neighboring city, and our members of the public for working together for the betterment of our communities. I remain committed to supporting a project that serves our formerly unhoused seniors and veterans.”
San Dimas supports bringing affordable housing that supports seniors and veterans, and we will continue to work towards ensuring the City's interest in the right project going into the right spot is a priority.
