San Dimas Awarded $1.5 Million for Low-Income Mobilehome Owners

SAN DIMAS AWARDED $1.5 MILLION IN FIRST-EVER PIONEERING PROGRAM DESIGNED TO ASSIST LOW-INCOME MOBILEHOME OWNERS

San Dimas, CA - The City of San Dimas is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $1.5 million from the California Department of Housing and Community Development's (HCD) Manufactured Housing Opportunity & Revitalization Program (MORE). This groundbreaking state program, designed to improve health and safety conditions for mobilehome owners, will allocate funds to support low-income mobilehome owners in San Dimas with grants of up to $40,000 each to upgrade their homes.

The MORE program, which recently issued the first-ever round of awards totaling $111.7 million, aims to assist 1,233 households statewide, including those in San Dimas. San Dimas, with 5 mobilehome parks, faces the challenge of maintaining these communities, many of which have aging infrastructure or homes in need of significant repairs. The MORE program is a critical step in preserving affordable housing resources and ensuring the well-being of residents.

San Dimas will utilize the $1.5 million grant to empower low-income mobilehome owners to make critical health and safety repairs, as well as make meaningful upgrades to their homes for energy-efficiency savings, refurbishments, restoration, and more. This initiative is expected to enhance the quality of life for residents and extend the lifespan of these affordable properties.

Emmett Badar, Mayor of San Dimas, highlighted the importance of this funding stating, "This investment in the well-being of our community is a testament to the commitment we have in providing safe and affordable housing for all our residents. I want to thank our staff for taking the initiative in applying for this grant to assist members of our community. With these funds, we aim to enhance the living conditions of qualifying mobilehome owners, ensuring a secure and comfortable environment."

The City is actively developing a transparent and efficient application and implementation process in tandem with HCD. This process aims to facilitate the seamless distribution of grants, up to $40,000 each, to eligible low-income mobilehome owners for essential upgrades. The City will be releasing comprehensive guidelines, eligibility criteria, and application procedures in the near future. Updates will be communicated through official city channels with direct outreach to our mobilehome communities when finalized.

With this $1.5 million grant, the City of San Dimas looks forward to making a positive impact on the lives of its residents, preserving affordable housing, and contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
