Since its incorporation in 1960, the unprecedented growth of San Dimas has transformed the City from an essentially rural area to a well-balanced community offering industrial, commercial, and residential living. In addition to the 1,700 acre Frank G. Bonelli Recreational Area which lies within the City boundaries, there are many parks such as San Dimas Canyon Park, a city-owned golf course (San Dimas Canyon Golf Club), and over 27 miles of equestrian trails for riding. The city services include an extensive recreational program for youth and for senior citizens, and the City boasts a new modern City Hall, with excellent provisions made for County Sheriff and Fire Departments, along with a fine Los Angeles County Library and Engineering Regional Office.
Public Safety Commission
The Public Safety Commission is composed of twelve members who shall be residents of the City. Ten members appointed by the City Council and 2 come from the Sheriff’s Department Community Action Team. Service on this Commission is voluntary.Each member will be appointed to a two-year term for a total of three terms. Commissioners cannot concurrently serve on two or more commissions. After term expiration, Commissioners must wait one year before being eligible for service on the same Commission.
Duties
- To advise the City Council on matters relating to law enforcement including but not limited to, policing, crime prevention and emergency services.
- To represent the views of the citizenry relating to law enforcement plans, programs, and future needs.
- To consult with professional staff in the development of law enforcement programs.
- To enlist community interest in, and support for, the City’s law enforcement programs.
- To work with citizens, elected and appointed officials, and professional staff to support the work of law enforcement, crime prevention and emergency services officers and deputies.
