The Walker House
121 N. San Dimas Avenue, San Dimas, CA 91773
A Living Piece of San Dimas History
Located in the heart of downtown San Dimas, the Walker House is one of the City’s most historic landmarks. Built in 1887, the grand Queen Anne-style structure was commissioned by the San Jose Land Company, which laid out the town of San Dimas along the Santa Fe Railroad. Originally constructed as the San Dimas Hotel for travelers arriving by rail, the anticipated land boom never materialized. Even so, the impressive multi-room building quickly became a centerpiece of the community and remains a defining piece of local history.
From Hotel Dream to Family Home
In 1889, merchant and citrus grower James W. Walker purchased the property and converted the former hotel into a private residence. For nearly ninety years, six generations of the Walker family lived in the home, which became a gathering place for family and community events.
Designed by architects Joseph Cather Newsom and Samuel Newsom, the house features intricate woodwork, several fireplaces, and a sweeping wrap-around porch, distinct characteristics of its period and architectural style. Its preservation and continued use reflect the City’s commitment to honoring San Dimas’ past while supporting active community use.
A Landmark Preserved
The Walker House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a California Point of Historical Interest. Restoration and rehabilitation efforts have maintained its original character, ensuring that this landmark continues to represent San Dimas' architectural heritage.
Home to Vincenzo’s Terrazza
Today, the Walker House remains an active part of downtown life. Its ground floor is home to Vincenzo’s Terrazza, an Italian restaurant that brings residents and visitors together to enjoy quality dining in a historic setting. Guests can experience the warmth of the home’s original craftsmanship while dining beneath its high ceilings or near one of its vintage fireplaces.
