RV Parking

Since 1961, the City of San Dimas has prohibited the parking of recreational vehicles, including all types of trailers, in the front yard driveway. The ordinances are summarized below:

  • Must be parked in rear or side yard behind house building line. (Refer to San Dimas Municipal Code 18.156.100.B.2.f for property guidelines).
  • Must be parked on a 3 1/2″ thick concrete surface.
  • Must not block access to vehicle parking in a garage.

Fines
Violators will be issued an Administrative Citation. The penalty for parking an RV in the front yard driveway without a permit is $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second violation, and $500 for the third violation and each additional violation thereafter.

This is a FREE permit that is valid for a period of 48 hours for the purpose of loading and unloading. This permit is required any time an RV is to be parked in the front yard driveway at ANY time of day for ANY length of time. This temporary permit must be displayed on RV in plain sight.

RV Overnight Parking Permit – Street
Overnight parking of RV’s on the street is allowed for up to 3 days maximum to accommodate loading and unloading with a valid Temporary Overnight Permit.

Disabled Persons
Disabled persons with a valid DMV placard or plate may apply for a Reasonable Accommodation Request to park a motorized RV in their front yard driveway. Applying is free! Can I park an RV in my front yard driveway?

Do I need a permit to park my RV in my front yard driveway for a few hours?

What types of vehicles are exempt?
Van campers and truck campers are exempt from the Recreational Vehicle regulations; hence, are allowed to park in the front yard on a paved driveway. Click here to see the list of exempt vehicles.
Where can I park my RV?
RVs may be parked in the rear yard or side yard behind the main building line. 
Can accommodations be made for people with disabilities?

Can I park my RV on the street overnight?
Yes. An overnight street parking permit for an RV is required. Overnight parking of RV's on the street is allowed for up to 3 days to accommodate loading and unloading with a valid Temporary Overnight Permit. Click HERE for overnight RV street parking.
How much time can I have to load and unload my RV?
Temporary parking of RV's in the front yard driveway is allowed for up to two (2) consecutive days at a time for loading, unloading or otherwise prepping vehicle, by obtaining a free permit from the City. This temporary permit must be displayed on RV in plain sight.
Where can I find an RV storage facility?
There are several RV storage locations within a 25-mile radius of San Dimas. 
Can guests stay in their RV while parking on street?
No. For safety reasons, camping on any public street, alley or right-of-way is prohibited by any person under Sections 16.86.020 thru 16.86.030 of the Los Angeles County Title 16 Highways Code adopted by the City of San Dimas. "Camp" includes the use of a location, or of any vehicle parked at such location, for living accommodation or lodging purposes.
Can I run an extension cord to power or charge my RV while parking on street?
No. For safety reasons, running an extension cord or other power cord within or across a public street, alley or right-of-way is prohibited by the 2007 California Electrical Code and is prohibited as an encroachment and impediment by Section 16.06.010.A. of the Los Angeles County Title 16 Highways Code adopted by the City of San Dimas.
Can I dump or discharge grey water from my RV into the street or storm drain?
No. For public health, water quality and environmental protection reasons, dumping grey water, sewage, or other illicit discharge into a public street, alley or right-of-way is prohibited under the Los Angeles County Title 12 Environmental Protection Code, and Chapter 20.24 of the Los Angeles County Title 20 Utilities Code, adopted by the City of San Dimas. "Illicit discharge" means any discharge to the storm drain system that is prohibited under local, state, or federal statutes, ordinances, codes, or regulations. Illicit discharge includes all non-stormwater discharges except discharges pursuant to a NPDES permit or discharges that are exempted or conditionally exempted.
Can I be fined for violating the City's RV regulations?
The City may use its administrative citation program to enforce RV regulations.
