Since its incorporation in 1960, the unprecedented growth of San Dimas has transformed the City from an essentially rural area to a well-balanced community offering industrial, commercial, and residential living. In addition to the 1,700 acre Frank G. Bonelli Recreational Area which lies within the City boundaries, there are many parks such as San Dimas Canyon Park, a city-owned golf course (San Dimas Canyon Golf Club), and over 27 miles of equestrian trails for riding. The city services include an extensive recreational program for youth and for senior citizens, and the City boasts a new modern City Hall, with excellent provisions made for County Sheriff and Fire Departments, along with a fine Los Angeles County Library and Engineering Regional Office.
Public Safety Commission
The Public Safety Commission shall be composed of five members City Council and two members of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station Community Advisory Board. They shall be registered voters of the City, serve without compensation and be appointed upon the basis of three affirmative votes of members of the City Council (does not include CAB members). Service on this Commission is voluntary.
Each member will be appointed to a two-year term for a total of two terms. Commissioners cannot concurrently serve on two or more commissions. After term expiration, Commissioners must wait one year before being eligible for service on the same Commission.
Meetings
Meets on the third Tuesday of odd months, at 5:30 p.m. (unless otherwise announced and publicly noticed) in the Council Chambers Conference Room San Dimas City Hall at 245 East Bonita Avenue.Duties:
- To learn more of the City’s public safety services by attending informative commission meetings.
- To advise the City Council on matters relating to law enforcement including but not limited to, policing, crime prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical response, fire prevention and emergency services.
- To represent the views of the citizenry relating to public safety plans, programs, and future needs.
- To consult with professional staff in the development of public safety programs.
- To enlist community interest in, and support for, the City’s public safety programs.
- To work with citizens, elected and appointed officials, and professional staff to support the work of public safety personnel.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Willingness to attend informative commission meetings to learn about public safety services as they affect the welfare of the people of San Dimas.
- Ability to interpret public safety services to the community, and to interpret the community to professional public safety personnel.
- Ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with other committee members, City Council, Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department the public, the school district, service organizations and other community groups.
- Willingness to attend committee meetings. Three unexcused absences in one year may result in dismissal from the Commission.
