Shopping Cart Ordinance

Overview

The City of San Dimas is considering the adoption of a Shopping Cart Ordinance to reduce unauthorized cart removal and improve containment on business properties. Shopping cart theft and abandonment contribute to blight and safety concerns in commercial areas and public spaces. While the City currently retrieves carts as part of nuisance abatement, the increasing demand highlights the need for proactive measures.

This proposed ordinance will:

✔ Allow the City to cite individuals found in unauthorized possession of a shopping cart.
✔ Establish a notification process for cart owners when carts are found off their premises.
✔ Serve as part of broader efforts to address blight and maintain the community’s image.

We value input from local businesses and community members. Please review the draft ordinance and share your feedback.
