Temporary Overnight Parking Permit

A temporary overnight parking permit may be used for the occasional need by a homeowner to park a vehicle on the street overnight. Additionally, visitors to San Dimas may also purchase one of these permits if they plan on leaving their vehicle on the street overnight. Temporary permits are available for $5 per night at the Sheriff’s Station, the Century 21 – Citrus Reality in the Via Verde Shopping Center, or online, and are available for up to 6 nights at a time. For passenger cars and trucks, or up to 3 days for RV’s. Click HERE to view what the City Considers to be an “RV’.  There are no residency requirements for temporary permits. Temporary permits are also available if construction on the home or driveway obstructs parking space.

REMEMBER! Vehicles parked on the street in the City of San Dimas between the hours of 2 am and 5 am without a valid temporary or annual overnight parking permit are subject to citation!

Purchasing a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit

CONDITIONS OF USE:
Please review the following conditions carefully before purchasing a temporary overnight parking permit:
  1. Valid only from 2 am to 5 am
  2. Expires at 5 am on the date indicated on the receipt
  3. Online temporary permits MUST be displayed in full view on the dashboard on the driver’s side in order for the permit to be valid.
  4. If the expiration date and/or the vehicle license plate are not clearly visible to Parking Enforcement, a citation may be issued.
  5. Valid ONLY for the vehicle matching the license number printed on the receipt.
  6. Not valid for vehicles with expired registration or non-operational vehicles.
  7. Vehicle MUST be moved after 72 consecutive hours, or it is subject to citation and tow.
  8. Tampering with or duplicating the receipt is strictly prohibited and will result in citation and tow.
  9. Temporary Overnight Parking Permits do not exclude a vehicle from any other parking or vehicle code laws.
  10. Temporary Overnight Parking Permits contain a security number to verify authenticity.
  11. On street overnight parking permits only apply to vehicles LESS THAN 6,000 lbs.  Vehicles weighing 6,000 lbs. or more may not park on the street longer than 2 hours and are subject to being cited.

  • Please make sure you have a working printer hooked up to your computer.
  • The length of time (in days) that the permit will be needed (6 days maximum for a passenger car and 3 days maximum for an RV). PLEASE NOTE: VEHICLES PULLING TRAILERS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE AN RV.
  • Vehicle information including license plate number or VIN, make, model and color.
  • Address where the vehicle will be parked.
  • A telephone number where you can be reached (will not be printed on the permit itself).
  • An e-mail address (will not be printed on the permit itself).
  • A valid credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Debit Card).

I am handicapped, do I still need to obtain a temporary overnight parking permit in order to park on the street?
No.  As long and you have a handicapped placard or license plate, you do not need to purchase a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit.  However, please remember to display the placard appropriately from your rear view mirror or you may still risk citation.
May I purchase a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit for my trailer?
No, you may not park an unattached trailer, (5th wheel, boat, toy or equipment hauler, etc.) on the street at any time.
May I store a vehicle on the street using a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit?
No.  On-street vehicle storage is prohibited using a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit.  According to the San Dimas Municipal Code 10.24.100, a vehicle cannot be left in the same location on a public street for more than 72 hours.  Vehicles left on the street in the same location for more than 72 consecutive hours will be cited and towed.
May I use a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit on a vehicle with expired or non-operational registration?
No.  Your vehicle must be in compliance with State and local codes to be eligible to use a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit.  Vehicles must have current registration tags and be operational, or be subject to citation and tow.
May I use my Temporary Overnight Parking Permit for more than one vehicle?
No.  Temporary Overnight Parking Permits are vehicle specific;  therefore it can only be used for one vehicle.  These permits need to be affixed to the driver’s side window in the lower right hand corner.
My street has other parking restrictions on it. Does a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit exclude me from those other restrictions?
No.  Your Temporary Overnight Parking Permit is only valid between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.  Parking restrictions for other times of the day are still in force regardless of the fact that you have an overnight parking permit.
What is the fee for a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit?
The fee for a temporary overnight parking permit is $5.00 per night.  For permits purchased online, there is an additional minimal transaction fee.  Permits for passenger vehicles may be purchased for up to 6 nights per transaction and permits for RV’s may be purchased for up to 3 nights per transaction.

Why do I need to write my license plate information on my Temporary Overnight Parking Permit?
Your Temporary Overnight Parking Permit is vehicle specific.  Your license plate information MUST be written on it clearly so that parking enforcement knows that the permit belongs to that vehicle.  If you fail to write your license plate information on the permit, or if the permit is not displayed properly, you may be subject to citation.
