Earth Day Art Competition

Attention students! Do you love to make art? Do you love the Earth and want to inspire others to protect it? Would you like your design to be featured in the City of San Dimas Eco Calendar? Then you are invited to enter the San Dimas Earth Day Art Competition! Students grades K through 5th can submit a drawing, painting, digital art, or mixed media piece for a chance to win. Choose from one of the environmental services topics to express how you interpret the official Earth Day theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’ . You can submit your entry at your school’s main office or online with the help of a guardian or parent. Email your art to publicworks@sandimasca.gov.  All entries are due by Friday April 10th. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd.

Students must submit an entry that reflects one of the following topics. After choosing a topic, students should create an art piece that reflects their interpretation of the annual Earth Day theme: Our Power, Our Planet” Environmental progress is built through everyday actions. What small acts can you and your community take to keep our plant clean and healthy?:

1. Food and Organics Recycling Cart
  • What can go in your food and organics recycling cart/can? How does organics recycling help our planet?
2. Recycling Cart
  • What can go in your recycling cart/can? How does recycling paper, plastic, glass, and metal help our planet?
3. Proper Household Hazardous Waste Disposal 
  • What household items are dangerous to the environment? How can we dispose of them properly to keep local ecosystems healthy?
4. Food Waste Prevention
  • How can we prevent food waste? Why should we not waste food?
5. Electronics Recycling
  • How can we recycle electronics? Why should we not throw electronics in the trash?
6. Illegal Dumping and Littering
  • What happens to our planet when people litter? How do we keep our city clean, safe, and beautiful?

All submissions shall follow the outlined criteria:

  1. Each submission shall demonstrate the year’s annual Earth Day theme along with the selected topic.
  2. All art must be an original creation made by the student submissioner. No AI tools or generators shall be used on entry submissions.
  3. Submissions must be one of the following mediums: drawing/painting, mixed media, digital art. Submissions must be in landscape orientation and a paper size of 8.5” x 11”.
  4. Submissions shall include the following information:
  • Student name
  • Grade
  • School
  • Selected Topic
  • Title of artwork
  • Artist statement (optional)
       5. Submissions shall be submitted by April 10, 2026 for contest consideration.
