COOLING CENTER

The City of San Dimas will open the San Dimas Senior  Citizen/Community Center to operate as a Cooling Center when temperatures are above 95 degrees.

  • The Cooling Center will be open M-TH 7:30am-8:30pm and Fri 7:30am-7:30pm. These hours may be extended depending on the circumstances.
  • Participants will be provided water and may watch movies (if available) while visiting the Center.
  • All participants visiting the Cooling Center will be expected to follow the San Dimas Senior Citizen/Community Center 
  • Code of Conduct.

If you plan to be outdoors, please take precautions to protect yourself from the sun and heat. 

  • Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the burning rays are the strongest. 
  • Reduce physical activity. 
  • Wear wide-brimmed hat and light-colored lightweight, loose-fitting clothes when outdoors.
  • Avoid hot, heavy meals that include proteins. 
  • Set your air conditioner between 75 to 80 degrees. If you do not have air-conditioning, take a cool shower twice a day and visit a cooling center. 
  • Check on elderly neighbors and family and friends who do not have air conditioning. 
  • Drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcohol. 
  • Insulate your home by installing weather stripping around your doors and window sills to keep the cool air inside. 
  • Symptoms of dehydration and heat cramps include dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, muscle cramps and increased thirst.
